What Are clear Aligners?
Clear aligners are a revolutionary treatment option that can straighten and perfect the look of your smile. If your teeth are crooked and crowded, it may be more difficult to take care of them. You may feel embarrassed by your smile and want to make a dramatic change. Clear aligners use clear trays to straighten your teeth, allowing you to avoid the bulk of metal brackets and wires.
Why Are Clear Aligners needed?
You might need clear aligners if your teeth are currently crooked, crowded, or misaligned, or if you have a malocclusion problem. The best way to determine if this treatment is the best option for you is to come in for a consultation. This gives us an idea of whether or not clear aligners are right for your orthodontic needs. Because clear aligners are removable and need to be worn for 22 hours each day, they are best suited to older teens and adults who can commit to treatment.
Who is a good candidate for clear aligners?
We can perform an examination to determine if you might need clear aligners. Most older teens and adults who require orthodontic treatment can, and will, benefit from clear aligners. If you have had orthodontic treatment in the past, it is still just as beneficial to have re-treatment if you never maintained your results. Clear aligners are easy to wear, and are often more comfortable than traditional braces.
What happens during the clear aligner treatment process?
We first take impressions of your teeth, and use these to make new aligner trays. These trays should be worn for about 22 hours everyday. They should be removed whenever you’re eating or brushing your teeth. You will come back into the office after a few weeks to have new trays made for you. You will have many different trays throughout the course of your treatment. Clear aligners can take anywhere from six months to a few years to fully straighten all of your teeth. This invisible orthodontic option is much easier to wear, and a lot more comfortable for patients, than traditional orthodontic options.
